a while back I mentioned that I would be interning with sweet afton, and the designs I did for them are done, printed and I've held them in my hands! I'm a little psyched.
for more about the prints/process, visit the shop.
that is all.

creative endeavors.
I finished this project on tuesday and it's definitely my favorite so far. I feel like I find a new movement to identify with every semester. this time I'm an abstract expressionist. it's decided. I just knew this was coming.
this little man kept me company for part of the time. he's about the greatest.
(notice the lack of blue on him. I am the greatest aunt ever, especially considering the first photo)

creative endeavors.
this is the latest project I did for painting, and it's a superflat self-portrait.
I definitely had a love-hate relationship with it. I enjoyed it quite a bit for a while. then it became pretty tedious and time-consuming, but I still can say I liked the project. even if none of the work I do right now seems to turn out quite like I'd expected, I could say the unpredictable nature is part of the fun, and maybe I'll just leave it at that haha.
I loved it at this stage and kinda want to revisit this idea at some other time just incorporating elements like this.
finished-ish.
(the colors are just a little off so you can't quite tell, but the hair is purple.)

creative endeavors plus some.
I'm currently waiting for paint to dry. rather than watching it, because I feel like it's been established that's a bit boring, I'm finally posting again! people are gonna get excited. I just know it.
a couple things that have been a little awesome lately:
we went to the plaza art fair a couple weekends ago and that made for some awesome people watching, as usual.
there was some pretty interesting art too.
I played art teacher to some 5-7 year olds for four weeks, along with another awesome lady. it ended last monday and here are some adorable thank you notes I got from the deal.
these are some postcards I've sent lately. I'm trying to get more colorful with them, and I just love my paint markers.
and here we have some projects I've been working on for painting. unfortunately I have basically none of my work from this class or ceramics with me, so I can't really share any of the final products. BUT these are some sneak peaks, and I'll share more when I can. I have not forgotten. =)

lately.
I went to the Haskell art market on sunday. it was awesome and colorful and interesting, and I got some pretty great cards with this tribal graffiti wolf thing going on, but more importantly I learned two things.
1) my favorite way to eat things is with my bare hands, barbarian style.
2) don't wear something bright colored and distinctive if you don't want people to notice that you've circled the tents three times now.
also, the whole time I was painting today I had this stuck in my head. (I don't know if it helped or hurt my sanity)
p.s. 100th post!

so first of all I'm pretty excited because I just got a new batch of postcards from Moo to send!
and second, I wanted to share this link to an awesome post about postcards. seriously it's amazing and just makes me love postcards that much more.
these are some that I've sent and made and received as of late.
that is all.

in the meantime.
classes have kept me pretty busy so far, but I don't have a whole lot that's interesting to post yet. I may or may not post the semi-boring beginning stuff. we'll see.
however, in the meantime, here are some extra gems from the colorado trip.

got out of dodge. part two.
the week after the south bend adventures, we packed up and headed west.
sometimes it's really great to just get away for a bit. colorado in the summer is a bit of break for us all, and we try to do as little as possible except sleep, eat, and hike just a little. it's completely wonderful.
(left to right - walking the yellow brick road, palm trees in colby, carson county carousel)
(the view from our cabin's front porch in estes park, card games at night, sketching by the fire)
(hiking around lily lake in rocky mountain national park with the cousins)
(Glen Eyrie -the castle in colorado springs, and the room I stayed in!)
(the swings at the Glen, castle terrace, awesome german deli in the springs)
(old colorado city, the damage from the fire, sketching on the grounds)
(our favorite coffee shop in the springs, more damage from the fire, hiking up to watch the sunset)
and now we're back to reality. the drive home was not uneventful, but we made it so that's all that matters. =)

got out of dodge. part one.
back to school now, and it's been alright so far. one of the advantages of going back is that it means fall is almost here! I'm so excited.
the last couple weeks of summer seemed to feel just as long as the rest of them put together. july feels like forever ago. it's been crazy awesome though.
early this month, the sisters Kohrs (my favorite dynamic duo) and I headed to south bend to see my long lost sister for a week. it was amazing, bats and all.
some pictures of the fun:
(our favorite coffee shop -they gave us free scones!, goodwill adventures, coolest bookstore ever)
(birthday adventures - fingerpainting, chicago style deep dish pizza, best pastries ever)
we also visited the beach (and all got crispy,) watched a lot of cranford, gilmore girls, and burning love. it was terrific, and I can't wait for next time.

sweet afton studio.
some quick news to share: I've just started interning with a lovely letterpress/design studio in omaha called sweet afton, and I couldn't be more excited.
they did a little interview with me recently and you can check it out here!

creative endeavors.
done! I survived another studio class. what a relief. =)
this one wrapped up with self portrait overload, people.
the last homework project was two self portraits, and then the final drawing for class was another self portrait with an emphasis on exploration of materials.
here are the ones I did for homework.
(started and finished them in one very long night.)
then here is the study for the final
and the final itself
and some details. (I think the eyebrows may be my favorite part, oddly enough)
the last couple days of working on this, my room became a bit of a studio and I survived on iced coffee with a soundtrack of count of monte cristo. it was actually a nice way to finish up.
01 August 2012
mostly matters of mail. (creative endeavors)
(the opportunity to abuse alliteration sometimes can't be passed up.)
here are some postcards I made recently, along with some cards I've made/sent.
(right above is the first installment of many mailings to my sister.)
plus a little peak at a favorite part of one of the last drawings I did this summer in class.

double final fridays!
last final fridays was incredibly warm. we're talking "find the place with ac and chill for a while" (literally) kinda warm. true story. but it was still just as interesting as ever. it was also my sister and bro-in-law's last weekend in town so it seemed a fitting way for them to end their time in l-town. best part of the evening was at the percolator though, where we got to fingerpaint out front. just check out the amazing creation below!
it was immortalized in a minibook later that weekend along with other fun events of the week. (turns out minibooks are pretty fun.)
then this past weekend it was time for another final fridays! this time I had awesome out of town friends that got to experience it with me.
below is one of my favorite pieces of art in l-town +my head +ryan's arm.
then there's katie and link.
"acorn's revenge" (way to go skyla!)
and ryan and krystal looking ultra natural.
good times.
