done! I survived another studio class. what a relief. =)

this one wrapped up with self portrait overload, people.
the last homework project was two self portraits, and then the final drawing for class was another self portrait with an emphasis on exploration of materials.

here are the ones I did for homework.

(started and finished them in one very long night.)

then here is the study for the final

and the final itself

and some details. (I think the eyebrows may be my favorite part, oddly enough)

the last couple days of working on this, my room became a bit of a studio and I survived on iced coffee with a soundtrack of count of monte cristo. it was actually a nice way to finish up.

mostly matters of mail. (creative endeavors)

(the opportunity to abuse alliteration sometimes can't be passed up.)

here are some postcards I made recently, along with some cards I've made/sent.

creative endeavors.

here are the latest homework projects for life drawing. next up, the dreaded self-portraits. yikes.

the first is just feet, and the second is my abdomen with a combo of "my" skeletol and muscular structure and a little skin.

here is the paper chain I made to count off the days till it's all over. it makes me happy. it's already shrunk a lot since I took this picture!

on an unrealated creative note, these prints were made by my mom when she was little. I'm loving them! (and proudly displaying them haha)

here are some shots of my first life drawing homework. drawing is not my fave so I'm glad there are just six weeks left of this. having said that, I think this turned out alright.

this is the coolest part about the textbook.

second year art recap - fall

this last year I produced a bit more art than the past one, so I've decided to post the semesters separately and put the work into the form of a slide show so as not to become overwhelming.

if you want a little more info, or perhaps more pictures, you can see the posts from the classes by using the links below. (though I posted some drawing and design work together so there might be some overlap)

stay tuned for the spring recap!

creative endeavors: skyscrapers/cityscapes edition.

for the past couple weeks skyscrapers and cityscapes pretty much took hold of my studies, my artwork, everything, so I thought it would be fun to put some of it together and show you what I've been up to. (admittedly a bit after the fact. recent stuff is soon to come.)

first up I'll show you my transparency design color project. it was pretty time consuming and frustrating and I think it's fair to say that everyone involved had hesitations as to whether it would come out. however, I think it did and it went over very well so I'm okay with all the work that went into it.

next is my wood drawing. this one I was equal parts excited and frustrated with. it went through many stages, with the initial study, the first stopping point, and then this, the final product. I'm pretty attached to it now though.

in the midst of all of this I came across this on little things, and it just made me smile.

AND if all that wasn't enough, I was also writing about this work Apartment Hill by Wayne Theibaud. it's really a pretty terrific piece, and fit in nicely with all my studies of skyscrapers in art history. bam.

and that's all folks.

23 November 2011

creative endeavors.

as crazy as it sounds, I think I'm finally bonding with my classes this semester. it's gotten to the point where I actually have enjoyed a project or two. what in the world haha.
anyways here is one of the last design projects I did. we had to take a section of our reference picture and mix pigments to match the colors in it, and then we had to take a section and create four different color harmonies.

then here are the last two drawing projects I finished. the first one with the masks may be one of my favorite works of the whole semester. it's just so bright and fun.

the one where she shows she's still being creative.

admittedly it's been a while since I've done a creative endeavors post. there's a bit to catch up on, but thankfully I don't even have pictures of it all so this post can't be TOO obscenely long.
first, some of the last few design projects we've worked on, including the finished color temp design. woot!
then the last three drawings I have pictures of.

mounting in progress.

finished! (the colors are off in the picture though, sadly)

then some tedious gouache work.

26 October 2011

the day doug cancelled class.

yesterday a terrific thing happened. yep, drawing class was cancelled. it's not that I don't like that class, it's just fantastic to get a break. I still worked on my drawing, and I still went to the lecture that we would have probably gone to as a class, but the pressure was off and it felt great.

here's how my day went:

I spent the morning and some of the afternoon working on my drawing/painting while listening to Les Mis (best).
Creative Endeavors6

then I went to a lecture by a sculptor from Paris.
_MG_2234-1

after that we ate dinner on the back porch because it was so nice outside.
and then I spent the evening making my first-ever stencil. it turned out a little messy so I think I'll remake it, but I liked this one enough to cover it in brightly colored dots made with a nerf dart. genius? why yes. basically it was just a lot of fun.

it was a wonderful day.

06 October 2011

creative endeavors.

here are a couple of projects I've been working on lately in my studio classes.

first up is the design work. this one is one I showed a peek of before. it's the simultaneous contrast project.
the goal was to: column 1. make one value (dark/light) look like two, column 2. make one hue (color) look like two, and column 3. make one intensity (bright/dull) look like two. the middle square on each column is the same, but changes its appearance based on what it's placed on.

this was a contrast of extension project. we were given four colors and had to create a design where no color had more importance than another using stripes of each.

next is a drawing project I just turned in today. we had to make a structural line drawing on a blueprint. blueprints are fun.
basically we were to use the structure lines as a graphic element in our composition.
