season of the tradition checklist.

time to break the blog silence I suppose.
in the past week we've made commendable progress on our extensive list of fall traditions, and we visited the Nelson again! (the grounds that is. we only had a tuesday to offer and the museum scoffs at tuesday goers and locks the doors. rude)




we spent some quality time at the pumpkin patch eating hot dogs and roasted marshmallows, giant pickles, and whatnot. tasty cider slushies also happened. when sufficiently stuffed for the moment, we picked out our perfect pumpkins with our favorite little pumpkin, then grabbed many apples and headed home for massive amounts of homemade spaghetti and meatballs and cheesecake. naturally.







today, after massive amounts of barbecue etc. and more celebrating, we carved our perfect pumpkins. though some may say we got carried away with the space references on our moon pumpkin, I think it's total perfection. =) we even shared the joy of making stars in the pumpkin with a screwdriver. too much fun.

creative endeavors: skyscrapers/cityscapes edition.

for the past couple weeks skyscrapers and cityscapes pretty much took hold of my studies, my artwork, everything, so I thought it would be fun to put some of it together and show you what I've been up to. (admittedly a bit after the fact. recent stuff is soon to come.)

first up I'll show you my transparency design color project. it was pretty time consuming and frustrating and I think it's fair to say that everyone involved had hesitations as to whether it would come out. however, I think it did and it went over very well so I'm okay with all the work that went into it.


next is my wood drawing. this one I was equal parts excited and frustrated with. it went through many stages, with the initial study, the first stopping point, and then this, the final product. I'm pretty attached to it now though.



in the midst of all of this I came across this on little things, and it just made me smile.


AND if all that wasn't enough, I was also writing about this work Apartment Hill by Wayne Theibaud. it's really a pretty terrific piece, and fit in nicely with all my studies of skyscrapers in art history. bam.

weekend adventures.

this weekend our favorite nebraskan friends came to visit and it was epic as always. in addition to multiple marathons of a certain british mini-series, we got to visit the Nelson. never disappoints. it was even nice enough outside that we could walk through the sculpture park!

things that made my day: spring break edition.

14 march. the construction of the giant blanket fort/man cave. watching the first of many movies in there while eating cookie dough and other snacks. (naturally the front was left open for optimum movie viewing).


15 march. the start of the wall art project. so convenient to have this space to work with before it's covered with paint.


16 march. lawrence day trip! taking pictures in the alleys.
